Welcome!
If you’re here, it likely means fatty liver or NAFLD showed up on a scan or lab report, and you were left with more questions than clear answers. For many South Asians, especially those living modern, high-pressure, Western-style lives, this finding can feel confusing or unsettling. This course exists to help you make sense of that information calmly, practically, and without fear, with the single goal of improving liver health in a way that fits real life.
The Tone of This Course
You’ll notice a steady, reassuring tone throughout the course. I’m not here to alarm you or push extreme solutions. Much of what you’ll see is shaped by my own experience, both professionally and personally. Despite genetic and family risk factors, we have worked intentionally to protect liver and metabolic health within our own family. The lessons reflect what we’ve learned through medical training, decades of clinical
and research work in the U.S., and in Mumbai using real-world practice with patients living high-stress, high-comfort lifestyles, including those common in urban India and South Asian expat communities.
What This Course Is, and Is Not
This is an educational course. It is designed to help you understand fatty liver, what drives it, and the lifestyle options people commonly consider to improve it. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it does not replace care from your healthcare provider. Think of this course as a way to become a more informed, confident participant in your own health decisions, not a substitute for medical care.
How the Course Is Structured
The course moves in a deliberate sequence, understanding first, then effort options, and only then application. You’ll begin by learning what fatty liver actually means, where NAFLD fits in, and why this shows up so commonly in South Asians. From there, you’ll explore different levels of effort, from small, manageable changes to more comprehensive shifts, and how nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, and daily
habits influence liver health over time. You can move slowly, revisit lessons, or skip ahead as needed. There is no required pace. This course is meant to work with your life, not compete with it.
The Core Takeaways Section
At the start of each lesson to orient yourself quickly and understand what truly matters before going deeper. If time or time is limited, read this section first, it captures the key points you should walk away with even if you skim the rest. This is especially true starting with the “Practical Tips” Modules (Lesson 4 onward).
Why This Is Not Video-Heavy
You’ll notice that this course is not built around long videos. Short videos are used where seeing or hearing something adds value, but when it comes to health decisions, especially those that you may want to discuss with family or your doctor, written material is easier to return to, scan, and use in real time. Think of this course less as something to “watch”, and more as a guide you can come back to whenever you need clarity.
Choosing Your Effort Level
Early in the course, you’ll be invited to reflect on how much change feels realistic for you right now. This is not a commitment, only a starting point. Some people begin with very small changes and adjust gradually. Others prefer to move faster. Both approaches are valid. Progress is rarely linear, and this course is built to support that reality.
About the Quizzes
You’ll see short quizzes at the end of some sections. They are not tests. There are no grades, no pass or fail, and no pressure. Their only purpose is to help you pause, reflect, and check your understanding before moving on.
About Biomarkers and Tracking
This course does not include online tracking tools, largely due to privacy considerations. Instead, you’ll receive guidance on which labs and imaging findings and lifestyle choices should be tracked. Any testing or monitoring decisions
should always be discussed with your doctor or healthcare provider.
