This is a typical Konkani breakfast item that we loved as kids.
Ingredients:
For undis: Two cups of idli rawa 1 cup finely grated coconut One teaspoon urid dal One teaspoon rai One teaspoon methi seeds Oil for the seasoning Salt to taste Water( approximately 2 cups)
For the gojju: One bunch fresh coriander Two roasted red chillies One tablespoon jaggery One tablespoon tamarind paste Two to three green chillies One cup fresh grated coconut(optional) One teaspoon rai Few curry leaves Salt to taste Oil for seasoning
Method:
Heat oil in a pan and add rai ,methi seeds and urid dal. Wash the idli rawa well and add it to the seasoning. Saute on low heat for some time and then add the grated coconut.Add water and salt and mix well till it becomes a dry consistency and most of the water is dried up.Allow it to cool down.Oil your palms a little and make round balls of the mixture.Grease two flat vessels with little oil and keep the undis for steaming for about 15 minutes in a steamer(pedavan)
Grind together all the ingredients for the gojju with some water.Add salt and season with oil,rai and curry leaves.
These undis can also be eaten with a bit of coconut oil drizzled on top.
